Social Good Day - (RED) networking slide

http://www.joinred.com/social_good_day/index.html

# 33 million people in the world have AIDS, 22 million live in Africa.

# Every day, 3,800 people die in sub-Saharan Africa from AIDS – a preventable and treatable disease.

# It costs just 40 cents a day for the life-saving medicine someone living with HIV/AIDS in Africa needs to help them live a healthy and productive life. Watch Bono, Penelope Cruz, & so many more friends of (RED) show the power of what 40 cents can buy in our PSA.

# What solutions are you coming up with to address some of the world challenges, such as the UN’s Millennium Development Goals, which include (RED)’s specific cause – helping to eliminate AIDS in Africa?

# What’s the most effective channel to spread awareness and generate money for causes: Twitter? Facebook? YouTube?

# Are you more active in social causes since the emergence of social media? How?

# How can you use geo-location apps like FourSquare and Gowalla for causes?

# Which social causes are getting it right and why?

# How would you use social media to spread awareness about
(RED)’s efforts to help eliminate AIDS in Africa?

JOIN THE "ONE" BABY PROTEST!

JOIN THE ONE BABY PROTEST ~ NO CHILD BORN WITH HIV BY 2015!

http://www.one.org/international/actnow/babyprotest/index.html

By joining the ONE Baby Protest, we can show that even in hard times, people around the world still care about those who don't have access to clean water or basic healthcare. The kind of extreme poverty that sees nearly 400,000 children born each year with HIV when this is completely preventable through simple treatment.

We can prevent this – by 2015 we can deliver the medicines so that no child is born with HIV. It starts with all of us asking world leaders to support efforts to make it happen.

THE MILLENNIUM DEVELOPMENT GOALS & SUMMIT

UN Summit on the MDGs - September 20-22, 2010, New York

There are only five years left until the 2015 deadline to achieve the Millennium Development Goals. UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon has called on world leaders to attend a summit in New York on September 20-22 for an opportunity to redouble efforts and agree on an action plan to accelerate progress towards meeting the Goals by their target date of 2015.

In September 2000, leaders from all 191 United Nations member states developed and adopted the Millennium Declaration, a written commitment to end extreme poverty worldwide by 2015. The Millennium Development Goals are eight development objectives that comprise the Millennium Declaration. These specific objectives will help achieve the overall goal of ending extreme global poverty.

See the list of goals below:

GOAL #1 - Eradicate Extreme Poverty and Hunger

The Goals represent human needs and basic rights that every individual around the world should be able to enjoy—freedom from extreme poverty and hunger; quality education, productive and decent employment, good health and shelter; the right of women to give birth without risking their lives; and a world where environmental sustainability is a priority, and women and men live in equality.
